For some reason I can not help but keep thinking about the experience I had this past week while playing through the Call Of Duty Ghosts Single Player Campaign on PS4. Over all I think it was a decent story but clearly was missing huge parts of the story that I am sure all of us were left scratching our heads saying "wait what" It just seems like time did not exist in this storyline especially when you had a timer to do something that you had already done as a different character. Beyond it's flaws the story was the same old enemy pops up you aim you shoot and move to the next, of all the Call of Duty titles this one for the most part felt the most like one of those rail shooters where you stay in place but the scenes change for you putting new enemies in front of you after you kill each batch. A part of me really wanted to love this campaign, probably because I am hoping that the developers behind the Call Of Duty games open up their eyes and see what is going on before it is too late.
If the Developers and Publishers do not take some drastic measures the Call Of Duty series could easily be dead within the next few years. Of course many will still buy the title for the next few years strictly because it is a Call of Duty game and I guess they know what they are going to get each and every year since the Multi-player has not changed much in the last few titles. Some people even like that it is almost the same game every year with different maps only tweaking small bits of how the perk systems or the types of weapons that are offered. The majority of the people that I have met and played Call of duty with over the past several years are coming out with very similar feedback and this is that the game has definitely peaked and everyone is afraid that without some serious changes the game is doomed.
Like I said I have been putting some serious thought into the entire Call Of Duty situation the last few days and I decided now would be a great time as any, to make an effort to put my thoughts on the COD series in writing in a space so that everyone else who loves or once loved the series can come to and add their thoughts on what they think could save the call of duty series. I am hoping anyone who comments on this might take it as serious as I am taking it and keep their sarcastic, rude, and negative comments for another forum or thread. It would be really awesome if we could compile some great ideas for the developers and publishers of the series so they could see how much we want them to succeed and how much we want the game to evolve so it stays alive.
If I were in charge of the future of the Call Of Duty Series here are the steps I would take to guarantee the success of the series:
1) Make the next Call Of Duty game after the one currently in development an Online only Call Of Duty game. Have all of your studios that have worked on any call of duty Multiplayer to come together bringing all of their Multiplayer assets including all of the Weapons & Maps from each individual title and compile a list of the ten or twenty all time best Multiplayer Maps, Next take those Multiplayer maps that everyone has loved over the years and create one team of Developers to take the maps and weapons to update them/upgrade them and put them onto the most current game engine to create Call Of Duty Online. Have this Call Of Duty Online come out with MP DLC Maps and weapons updates every few months to keep everyone interested and please reduce the crazy exclusivity deal with Microsoft waiting a month for DLC on other platforms is creating negative buzz from every gamer who has to wait that period of time and is reminded of it every time a new DLC pack comes out.
2) While the one team of combined resources from all of your developer studios is working on this epic Online only Call Of Duty create another team that will concentrate strictly on a brand new game engine, something that will be able to be upgraded over the next several years to keep up with any new technology that is developed.
3) When you do come back the following year with which ever studios turn it is for a single player campaign Please go back to the World War 1, World War 2 era. The World war's are far more interesting than any of this crazy futuristic tech. The only thing that is interesting about anything futuristic usually involves terrorism and is a touchy subject it seams. We all have heard different World War II stories or Vietnam stories even and any of those stories deserve to be told much more than any fictional 6 hour futuristic nonsense. Just please go back to the World War Era it really is much more interesting and who cares if the weapons are not at sophisticated, sometimes simple is better and in this case I know that everyone is ready to see a come back of this amazing time period.
4)This means that if one studio is working on a World War era game your other studio can tackle either a different time period or continue one of the series that you have already created whether that be the Black Ops series which could be really interesting if you split the time periods again which I think was awesome but please whatever you do stick to the basics, hash out the storyline, spend a few extra bucks to do good voice and mouth capture, and Please give us a campaign that is not rushed out for once and one that is longer than six hours. I like most others want a game that is challenging again that I get so mad at because it is so hard that I have to step away from it and then come back later to get only one stage further. Give us a full experience with meaning, heart, suspense, and action.
5) Last bit of what I think could help save the Call of Duty series is this, It is okay to take a year off every once in a while. You are cramming the series down our throats and yes I get it you want to cash in while you can but if you continue to give us these cheap, UN-eventful, short 6 hour long, heartless, and boring campaigns you are going to make everyone so sick of the series that it will kill itself.
I love the Call Of Duty series, I have bought and played every single one of the games since the beginning and for me to debate buying a COD game or not means I am probably not the only one thinking the same thoughts, Please go back to the beginning and make us excited for the Stories again.
Thanks, I got that off my chest now so what do you guys think about what the Developers and publishers of Call Of Duty could do to Save the Call Of Duty Series before it is too late?
